For The Birds

The BLUE JAY.  Often referred to as the Bully of Songbirds.  His size and brute can often push other birds out of his way.  Others seem to flee when he arrives on the scene.  The Blue Jay's feathers are a visual feast of color , texture and pattern.
When I spotted this bird at my feeder yesterday, I was beyond excited.  In the country I rarely got these to come and here, at this house, this is the first time I have seen it.  Not only was there one, but there was two and they came back again today.  This is a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and what is so excellent about this bird is that it is black and white with a Splash of bright red on it's chest.  It looks like a splash of paint (or some say blood).  It is awesome.
This Redheaded WOODPECKER has been stopping by since I put out SUET.  These are huge birds.
Here is the same WOODPECKER resting high in a branch.
At the thistle feeder is:  AMERICAN GOLDFINCHes.  The bright yellow are the males, the dull yellow are the females.  (just like cardinals: bright: male / dull: female).

Bird Notes:  Since I have set up some different feeding stations, etc...all of a sudden in addition to my common: sparrow, cardinals, chickadees, wrens, etc, we have now opened up to welcome many more different type of birds.  Feeling so inspired by all our visitors, Ben and I put out a little bird bath today as well.  We are waiting on our first guest wondering who will partake first.  I think it will be a happy little Chickadee.  I have several more pictures to share (got Baltimore Orioles today!) of many more birds.  But, I figured this is a start.  Like I said previously, I am no expert by any means.  I just enjoy birds.  My photos are not National Geographic or Birds and Blooms, they are just snapshots of what I can capture I look forward to sharing some bird stories in the future (like the dead owl I found on a country road or about the cardinal that greeted me on Christmas morning).  Thanks for visiting.  Next post coming soon!  Until then, keep flying.
